The School of Chemical Engineering, Ocean and Life Sciences was established on December 1, 2023. Its predecessor was the School of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering, School of Ocean Science and Technology, School of Environment and Food , and School of Life and Medicine, all of which were founded during the early years of Panjin Campus of Dalian University of Technology in 2013. The school was formed through the merger of the School of Ocean Science and Technology, the School of Life Sciences and Pharmacy, and the Panjin Branch of the School of Chemical Engineering, following the campus institutional reforms in 2019. It includes the Department of Energy and Chemical Engineering, the Department of Marine Technology, the Department of Environment and Food, and the Department of Life Science and Pharmacy. The school also collaborates with the Panjin Campus Teaching and Research Department to jointly manage the Analytical Testing Center of Panjin Campus.
The school focuses on international frontiers and major national and regional needs, focusing on conducting organized scientific research, planning and cultivation in the directions of energy and chemical engineering, polymer materials, cold area marine and underwater intelligent equipment, marine ecosystems, biomedicine and general health. Plan and cultivate large teams and platforms, and significant achievements to better support the construction of a high-level international campus and the development of related disciplines at the school, serving the high-quality sustainable revitalization of Panjin, Liaoning, and Northeast China.
The school has held many significant scientific research platforms: State Key Laboratory of Structural Analysis, Optimization and CAE Software for Industrial Equipment(Marine Equipment Laboratory Division), State Key Laboratory of Fine Chemicals , Key Laboratory of Industrial Ecology and Environmental Engineering, Ministry of Education , Key Laboratory of Molecular Recognition and Imaging,Liaoning Province , and Liaodong Peninsula Estuary-Coastal Zone Environmental Ecology Field Science Observation and Research Station.
There are currently 137 faculty members, including 20 professors, 63 associate professors, 6 lecturers/assistant engineers, 3 senior engineers, 25 engineers and laboratory technicians, 16 administrative staff, and 4 postdoctoral fellows.
As of November 2024, the college has a total of 3,072 undergraduate students, covering 10 undergraduate programs. The total number of graduate students is 519. The overall student population of the college reaches 3,591.
The Department of Energy and Chemical Engineering is developed on the basis of the disciplines of Chemical Engineering and Technology (first-level discipline, national key discipline) and Chemistry (key discipline of Liaoning Province). There are two pivotal majors in this department: Energy & Chemical Engineering; Chemical Engineering & Industrial Bioengineering. The fundamental task is cultivating high-level research-oriented engineering talents with high moral character, mainly serving for the frontiers of high-efficient separation with low carbon emissions, intelligent materials and catalysis, new energy resources and electrochemical energy storage, and high-end fine chemicals, etc.
The Department of Ocean Technology relies on multiple first-level disciplines such as Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, and Automation at Dalian University of Technology, as well as the State Key Laboratory of Structural Analysis, Optimization and CAE Software for Industrial Equipment. It focuses on "Ocean Equipment Technology" as the main thread for talent cultivation, and primarily conducts learning and research around marine resource development technology and marine observation technology. In fields such as marine engineering, marine new energy, and intelligent equipment, it aims to cultivate talents with comprehensive abilities in design, research, manufacturing, and management.
The Department of Environment and Food relies on multiple disciplines at Dalian University of Technology for talent cultivation and scientific research, including Environmental Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Technology, and Biochemical Engineering. The department concentrates on key themes including the protection and ecological restoration of wetlands, estuaries, and coastal environments. Through integrating perspectives from physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering, it seeks to advance the understanding, conservation, and restoration of these vital ecosystems.
The Department of Life and Pharmaceutical Sciences mainly expands the teaching and scientific research in Biology, Pharmaceutical science, and Clinical Medicine by relying on the doctoral programs of Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering, as well as the master programs of Biology and Pharmaceutical Engineering. It aims to cultivate scientists, educators, and scientific research management talents who engage in innovative research, medical services, teaching, and management in the fields of life sciences and pharmacy.
